website review - carwale.com

this is one really good Indian website....... dedicated for prospective car buyers & sellers.
carwale.com. the user interface is really well thought through.. it gives answers to all questions which a prospect will have in his mind before buying or selling. carwale.com is one of the best websites which i have came across so far.

it may not be on par with some of the US websites like amazon or other big retail sites... but its really worth a try for all...

google chrome and windows media player .. A weird connection

Don't think i am going to talk something technical... Just see the pic attached.

Its the similarity between the logos.... I am not sure if anybody have noticed it. The chrome logo is copied from the media plaer logo...

I am a fan of google, but still google should have taken extra care to avoid this.... All the four colors and the design resemble Mediaa player...

Did Microsoft sue google for it ??????????????  Google out and find it for yoursellf.....

Age of Netbooks, Note book killer

As you walk around in an elctronics superstore, you should have been attracted by attractive tiny laptops looking like to Sony Vaio s, but not even one fourth of the price of an vaio. The first question in your mind will be why are the big companies like Intel, Asus, Acer etc are selling these laptops so cheap when compared to Dell or HP or Lenovo ?

Welcome to world of “ Net books” , don’t think I have spelled wrongly, its not a notebook , it’s a netbook, tailored for the netizens. It’s the new buzz in the pc market in recession. Its born out of a simple idea, U ask 100 people that for what purpose u use a laptop the most, 95 percent will say they use it for browsing net and staying connected. So y do u need a powerful processor , big screens , useless softwares and hardwares in your laptop.

If somebody gives u a Netbook which is half the price of a Notebook, which will serve your entire internet needs, and give more and most importantly half the weight of an average laptop and extended battery backup.

Who are the pioneer in Net books: It’s the Taiwaness hardware majors Asus Eee PC and Acer

Now HP, Apple and Dell are also joining in this competition to beat their Taiwanese counterparts

Intel Atom is the processor that powers some of the famous netbooks across the world. Google Android Netbooks are expected by 2010.

The global market for netbooks, also known as mini-notebooks, was 5.61 million in the third quarter, up 160% from the second quarter, according to a statement Tuesday from DisplaySearch, the Austin, Texas-based research firm.

In this age of cloud computing, netbooks comes as a major boon for all organizations who believe in mobility and Virtuality. All the enterprise applications are browser friendly and are orienting towards service clouds.

Netbooks and Cloud computing together can help organizations reduce cost in a significant manner.

sun, sand , beach, kayaking?????? @ Mudaliar kuppam

My short travelogue to this place called mudaliar kuppam (sound sweird and filmy isnt it).  5 guys including me went out to pass time on the day after valentines day... we decided to go to mudaliar kuppam a place near Pondicherry ( Nearly 90 Kms from chennai on the ECR)... As we were really bored going to besant nagar beach, marina and muttukadu...

Everybody heard about this boating place but none of us had any clue whats on there. When we landed there, we were literally pissed off as it was similar to muttukadu. (Muttukadu is a boating place which is very near around 25 kms from chennai).  The first question on our mind was y the hell did we travel nearly 100 kms to just go boating on a hot sunday afternoon.

When we saw the rate list of the boat rides, we were quite curous abt Kayaking... But little scared too as I did not know swimming and otheres were like y experiment and go for the usual pedal boat....

One of the gusy and myself were really curious to check it out, and finally the other also had to agree...

Kayak is just a single seater with a row, and within  5- 10 mins we were rowing the boat with ease... and we started racing , went to a near shore got down and took photos... finally after an hour we camr back with a satisfied smile on our face.......

Entrepreneurship in India

I was feeling bored on a weekend and wanted to catch up with some of my PG mates. I was lucky enough to get such a great set of frnds in both (UG and PG). So finally 4 of us planned to meet and decided to go to Besant nagar beach. One guy works for a energy company and the other two guys work for a start up consulting company.

So as usual we had lot of useless talks pulling each others legs and then suddenly started discussing economics.

The guy who works for energy company said, he bought the Satyam shares for 9 rs and today it was around 40 rs. Other friend is an expert in finance but unfortunately works in a job where there is nothing to do with what he is expert in but still has a lot of responsibilities as the company is a start up. He told him to sell off the shares immediately as once L&T withdraws then the shares would collapse, but the energy guy said he is not bothered about the returns as he bought 100 shares without expecting anything out of it. He said that before any investment we have to do two type of checks qualitative and quantitative checks. If any investor had done a qualitative check would have never invested in Satyam.

The consulting guy suddenly asked a simple question to everyone. If every one loses the job what will he do look for new job or become a entrepreneur. Out of the four only i said i will look out for other job. The other 3 said rhet wud either start a nrw business and continue doing their family run business. One thing the guy said still haunts me. Everyone should have a back up plan. ( I am still thinking but not successful)

The consulting guy started recollecting economic fundas, stated by Prasanaa Bhatt who is a very famous professor in my college. Initially we used to get sleep in his class due to his slow method of teaching, but with his knowledge he drove every one with something or other one can never forget in his lifetime. Nobody can ever teach economics like that. Some of his punch lines are

"Price is always determined by the customer. U can only calculate the cost."

Prasanna bhat used to explain about Keynesian theory. Keynesian theory works at all walks of life.

Keynes argued that the solution to depression was to stimulate the economy ("inducement to invest") through some combination of two approaches :

  • a reduction in interest rates.

  • Government investment in infrastructure - the injection of income results in more spending in the general economy, which in turn stimulates more production and investment involving still more income and spending and so forth. The initial stimulation starts a cascade of events, whose total increase in economic activity is a multiple of the original investment.

Its very much true in our case, government is cutting interest rates and government is investing heavily on infrastructure. People have to start spending for the economy to get out of depression. But its natural not to spend when there is no guarantee for your job.

Soon after that one of my close frnd called me up and asked me to think of some business idea where he can invest in. He is working in one of the safest and respected IT co in india.
He also got a chance to visit UK but still he wants to start a busines of his own.

Then i realised that there are so many ppl around u who are very serious in starting a new venture and are not worried even if they start a small ice cream shop or hotel....

At this time if government provides support and encourages we can see a lot of young entrepreneurs in the making in this period of recession.......

On a lighter side, most of the bright wanna be entrepreneurs want to start a hotel ........

India is one of the larget untapped markets, if the goverment starts injecting money in new development projects like

Automation of government organizations like post offices, transport offices, election offcie, ration, passport office ( its actually happening now tcs has bagged the order for IndiaN passport services) etc..

By making the procurement transparent and genuine.. corruption can be reduced....... India is a country where the politicians know all the opportunities first hand and get the best out of it by bribery or other means.. they are the leading business men in the country...

And if you ask me ,,, i dont even have 1 % of entrepreneur in me... and One stranger (an old man in a Coffee Day ) said that i will become a successful business man earning millions of rs. I was with 2 of my frnds, and i did not even talk to him and it was my first and last meeting with the old man,, he called me alone and said this. Even now 2 of my frnds keep telling me that dont forget once u become a millionaire..

But i understood, that the old man is a retarded fellow :)

Views of Management Study

I am always fascinated by the term management. Is it because my brother was pursuing an MBA or something else ? Am yet to figure out. My brother has been an inspiration for me all along my life. Anything he does fascinates me.

So even i went on to pursue my management degree. So came across a lot of cases. all basically inclined towards the American market. As most of the authors were Americans we had to learn about their cases. Many times i have questioned myself why am i really pursuing a management degree ... and still thinking

I was really happy that when i came out i could really relate some of it to my everyday job.
Like for eg we studied about mergers and acquisition.
I experienced it in my company which got acquired by an bigger company. Integrations issues, change management etcc ...

India companies reaching out to buy foreign firms just beleiving that the stock markets will help them.... but all of it is topsy turvy now. Now the companies are bleeding to recover the money over spent on acquisitons and

When it comes to finance we learnt about mortgages, futures and a lot more about the share market ( Ups and downs) . There is something called a " Circuit break" , which is very rare and comes only if share market rapidly plunges. .. BUt i was fortunate enought to witness it when it happened for real in Indian Share market ..... Unfortunate for the investors though ...

The whole world is talking about the mortgage industry , which many beleive as the root cause for the global crisis.

One final thing which I woul like to add is

All the cases which was termed as successs stories are turning to be a failure story now
Whole America is in the biggest recession, so does that mean whatever management they teach
with their cases is wrong. Is the marketing strategy not working......... was there not a disaster recovery plan ..... all the management books has to be rewritten ??? all financial instruments invented is now holding their neck ?????

Is there a lack of strong fundamentals ??????

So will the new Obama management find its way into books for good or bad reasons ... lets wait and watch.. It is going to be the greatest case study for Management education .....

Title of my blog

I dono how it came up to be as my blog name. I was just thinking what name to keep for my blog. I dono people around me within a short time tell me that i have this attitude. As I always look like i am not bothered about the things around me, when I actually do.

The other significance of this name which i came to know much later is that , it is the new James Bond novel coming up with this name and will be published soon.

IPR rights are not good in India, because they stole my blog name but I could not prevent it. :) :)

Oscar for AR Rehman for Slumdog

On one side I am happy that AR Rehmanis nominated for 3 oscars when he can get only two but the other side is am really surprised. I am not sure how AR Rehman got shortlisted for the Oscars . Because AR Rehman's musical scores in previous films are 100 times better than the ones for Slumdog. Even he would agree for that.
As slumdog became popular his songs in the movie also got noticed. So it needs some amount of publicity for anything and everything to get noticed.

I am glad that the world will get to know more of AR Rehman and India once he gets an oscar..

Lets all pray he gets the two oscar awards.
